What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Village Of Elk Rapids?
Responsibilities
A. Police officers shall assume and perform such duties as are imposed upon them by the Village of Elk Rapids ordinances, statutes of the State of Michigan, departmental orders, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Police officers shall also assume duties conferred upon them by the Chief of Police.
B. A police officer shall report and/or take appropriate action as prescribed by any state or local statute, ordinance, order, policy and/or rules of the Elk Rapids Police Department.
C. A police officer shall perform such lawful duties as may be necessary to minimize the occurrence of deterrable crime.
D. A police officer shall identify, apprehend and/or assist in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes and/or infractions.
E. A police officer shall conduct him/herself in a manner which is consistent with all statutes, laws, ordinances, departmental orders, policies and/or rules and regulations.
F. A police officer shall perform such duties as necessary to facilitate the safe and orderly movement of people and vehicles within the Village of Elk Rapids.
G. A police officer shall seek to recover lost or stolen property, identify its lawful owner and ensure its expeditious return, while remaining consistent with the procedures established by statutes, ordinances and policies of the department.
H. A police officer shall resourcefully and diligently perform his/her duties to ensure the community; which underwrites the costs, the greatest possible benefit for the funds expended on law enforcement.
I. A police officer shall conduct himself/herself and perform his/her duties for the benefit of the community served. This maximizes the development, productivity, professional identity, and job satisfaction of all departmental employees.
J. A police officer shall provide, arrange, and/or assist in providing police emergency services. These services are to be handled in the prescribed lawful manner, Maintaining public safety and public order.
K. A police officer shall assist, or arrange assistance, for those who cannot care for themselves. This is to be provided consistently with applicable statutes, ordinances, order policies, rules, and regulations of the department, utilizing such referrals and resources as are available.
L. A police officer shall provide, arrange, and/or assist in emergency first aid.
M. A police officer shall perform all police services consistent with statutes, ordinances, orders, policies, rules, and regulations. Police services are to be conducted in a manner that, in every instance, protects the constitutional rights of all people.
Qualifications
Must hold current Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensing; experience highly preferred.
