What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector 1 position at Village of Glen Carbon?
Job duties include but are not limited to a broad range of inspections related to enforcement of adopted building codes, development regulations and/or contract requirements. . Knowledge of various building and property maintenance codes and Village ordinances are required. Inspectors are responsible for residential and commercial buildings in various stages of construction or repair for compliance with applicable codes, safe construction practices and other regulations or ordinances relating to the safety, health, and welfare of the general public.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 1 or more years of experience as a municipal building inspector/code enforcement officer.
- Residential Building Inspector certification through the International Code Council required. within 1 year of employment.
- Experience in construction trades; as well as strong knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings, site plans and structural drawings.
- Knowledge of inspection techniques and accepted practices.
- Must be able to work effectively with co-workers, general public, contractors, developers, and landlords.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Salary and Benefits:
- Starting base pay is $28.49 p/hr. following a 90-day probationary period. Salary is set by union contract, during probationary period is 75% of base.
