The Jackson Water Utility is receiving applications for the position of a Water Utility Operator. The position is entry level with the Jackson Water Utility. The position requires good knowledge of a municipal water system including but not limited to pumps, distribution system, water wells, and building maintenance. The position will require all licenses and / or certificates required by the WIS DNR. A commercial driver’s license will be required. Direct supervision is received from the Water Supervisor. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The person is part of a crew engaged in maintenance and upkeep of equipment, buildings and grounds, water distribution, within the Village of Jackson’s water utility’s boundary; perform related duties as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position is an entry level position in the Jackson Water Utility. The position requires good knowledge of a municipal water system including but not limited to pumps, distribution system, water wells, and building maintenance. The daily work schedule is directed by the Water Utility Supervisor. EXAMPLES OF WORK: - Meter maintenance along with installation and reading.- Inspects well sites and equipment with conformance of instructions from Supervisor.- Maintenance of buildings, including grass cutting, and snow removal.- Repair and maintenance of equipment, water mains, and building and grounds.- Hydrant maintenance, bi-annual flushing of water system, valve maintenance, and valve exercising.- Climbing a water tower for inspection.- Required to plow snow for Street Department when necessary. - Attend approved special courses and workshops.- Required to work weekends in the summer for park maintenance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in municipal water system construction and maintenance; ability to work with others on tasks as directed from the Water Supervisor; ability to take direction from the Water Supervisor and finish the tasks as required; ability to keep accurate records; ability to get along with the general public; and keep in good physical condition.
