The Village of Marcellus is seeking applications for one full-time Department of Public Works Employee. The preferred candidate will have a CDL B license (or obtain one within 90 days of employment) with airbrake endorsement and experience operating street maintenance equipment: wages dependent on experience and licensing certifications. The Village of Marcellus is a Drug Free Workplace, and the candidate must pass a pre-employment drug test in addition to being added to the Village’s drug testing pool.

Department of Public Works (DPW) - Job Description
Purpose
To maintain high-quality essential services and to provide programs, services or assistance to the community which promote and encourage safe, comfortable living conditions and encourage local ordinance compliance.
Essential Functions
- Meticulous daily, weekly and monthly “checks” to record, manage and test water pumped; adequacy/permissibility of chemical additives including, chlorine and phosphates and test for bacteria and iron levels.
- Regular checking and recording of information related to flow of raw sewage and discharge of effluent. - Maintenance of sewer lift-stations.
- Winter street & sidewalk maintenance including, snow plowing, sanding/salting, etc.
- General maintenance of buildings and equipment, washing and waxing, oil changes, lubing, etc.
- Tree trimming, brush and leaf removal, mowing, weed trimming, raking, grading alleys, storm drain maintenance, pouring concrete, street sweeping, and general building and grounds maintenance including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
Skills Required for the Street Department.
- Commercial Driver’s License ‘B’.
- Experience with heavy equipment such as a plow truck, skid steer, back-hoe and loader.
- Responding to unscheduled call-ins on weekends and after working normal hours is expected.
- - Customer service and complaint management.
- Ability to read/understand blueprints for the location of essential services, etc.
- Basic plumbing skills are required for removing or replacing water meters, service lines, etc.
- Hand digging.
- Some basic computer skills, including Excel and Outlook.
- Continuing Educations Credits are required to maintain licenses.
- Other duties as prescribed.
Skills Required for the Water Department
- Requires an S-3 and D3 Water Operators License (Village will provide training if necessary).
- Basic math skills are essential.
- Special inspections and maintenance of water/fire hydrants.
- Skills Required for the Sewer Department
- Requires an ‘L-1’ Sewer Lagoon Operators License (Village will provide training if necessary)
- Regular checking and recording of information related to flow of raw sewage and discharge of effluent.
- Maintenance of sewer lift-stations.
Physical Expectations
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling, walking and driving.
- Occasional pushing, pulling or lifting over 50 lbs.
Environmental Expectations
- Exposure to chlorine, phosphorus, bio-hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens.
- Exposure to periodic loud noises.
- Exposure to elements of weather.
