About Us: The Village of Onsted is a vibrant community dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life for our residents. Our Department of Public Works (DPW) plays a crucial role in ensuring our village operates smoothly and efficiently.
Position Summary: The DPW Employee will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and improvement of village infrastructure, public facilities, and park. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of village roads, sidewalks, and public spaces.
- Perform snow removal and ice control operations during winter months.
- Operate and maintain various DPW equipment, including trucks, loaders, and other machinery.
- Conduct routine inspections of public facilities and report any issues to supervisors.
- Participate in landscaping and grounds maintenance, including planting, pruning, and lawn care.
- Support waste management and recycling efforts within the community.
- Respond to public inquiries and assist residents with service-related issues.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Must be willing to obtain water and wastewater license; will have expenses covered by the Village.
- Other various tasks, as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in public works or a related field preferred.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license; CDL B Required.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and power tools safely.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer service-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
