Building Official / Plans Examiner
The Village of Palatine seeks a positive and motivated International Code Council (ICC) Certified Plans Examiner, with experience performing plan reviews within a municipal building department, to serve as the Village's Building Official and provide in-house plan review services. This position reports directly to the Community Development Department Director.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :
Reviews building plans and related documents for compliance with local building codes, policies, and jurisdiction requirements for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. Projects include new buildings, tenant improvements, and remodeling. Assists homeowners, designers, and contractors by providing information and interpretations of building codes and regulations. Supervises and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
The Plans Examiner will be responsible for completing plan reviews, preparing written correction letters, and maintaining and updating records and database information. The Plans Examiner will also work with building inspectors to resolve field related code issues and coordinate activities with other Village Departments as directed.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field and three years technical experience in plan review. Must have obtained International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner certification. Five or more years of technical experience in plan review and associated training may substitute for the educational requirement. A high level of competency using computers, producing professional quality documentation, and reading / interpreting construction documents and specifications is required. Experience with digital plan review software such as BlueBeam and EnerGov is a plus.
Starting Salary : The position's starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience, with the maximum salary range being $144,270. In addition, the Village offers an excellent benefits package.
Hours : 40 hours per week. This is a full-time exempt position.
