SUMMARY

Primary responsibilities include the management of the Villages' fleet of light and heavy vehicles and equipment including arranging for repair and maintenance of a variety of makes and models of passenger automobiles, trucks, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Provide the Village a well-maintained fleet of light and heavy vehicles and equipment with minimal downtime.

Coordinates the repair and preventative maintenance of a variety of makes and models of passenger automobiles, trucks, and maintenance equipment.
Supervises the maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment.
Inspects, directs and oversees the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment.
Responds to emergency road calls to arrange for repairs to disabled equipment.
Prepares routine reports and maintains records.

Schedules and coordinates preventive maintenance work for Village vehicles and equipment with other departments.

Coordinates maintenance and repairs accomplished by outside contractors and dealerships.

Confers with department heads regarding their vehicle maintenance needs and problems.

Maintains a clean, organized and functional shop.

Maintains fleet inventory, records, and repair history.

Responsible for work scheduling, planning, coordination and prioritizing.

Ensures all applicable safety procedures are followed.

Determines and requisitions necessary materials for repairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or G.E.D. plus 2 years' in light car and truck and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade.

Knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair on heavy trucks and road maintenance equipment.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Knowledge of Village policies and procedures.

Ability to update, coordinate and implement a fleet management program and revisions as necessary.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to manage workflow with strong organizational skills.

Ability to resolve internal and external customer complaints and concern

The Village of Palm Springs offers a complete benefits package.

PROBATION :

All positions serve a (6) six month probationary period

PENSION PLAN : FRS (Florida Retirement System)

Mandatory 3% employee contribution of your gross salary

Fully vested after eight (8) years

HOLIDAYS :

We have 14 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday is paid or comp'd at ten (10) hours for holiday except birthday which is at 8 hours. Birthday is an additional paid holiday but must be requested approved by supervisor, and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.

PERSONAL LEAVE TIME :

Accrues weekly from hire date at the rate depending on length of time in service. PLT may be used, paid, after six (6) months.
