DESCRIPTION
Maintain the safety of all members and guests at Hap Parker Family Aquatic Center by providing the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for injured patrons.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Experience is preferred, but not necessary
- Must be available to work during the months of May to September
- Must be available to work between 15 to 40 hours a week
- Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed
- Preferred valid Lifeguard (American Red Cross) certification, Professional Rescuer CPR & AED, and Basic First Aid certification
- If not currently certified, must be able to swim 300 continuous yards, able to retrieve brick from 8 feet and swim length of the pool with the brick in your hand and be able to tread water with no hands for 2 minutes continuously in order to be registered for certification
- Course schedule is intensive and requires sustained energy and focus for several hours in the pool. All hours must be completed at scheduled times to receive certification
REQUIREMENTS
- Display strong water skills and maintain top level of physical fitness
- Possess a serious attitude towards guarding and an aptitude for thinking clearly in emergency situations
- Demonstrate knowledge in the use of rescue equipment
- Must have adequate vision and hearing and be able to effectively hear and see distress signs
- Must be able to communicate with people of all ages
- Must show exceptional customer service with pool members and guests
- Must be friendly and able to relate to members, guests, and co-workers
- Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs
- Applicant must be able to remain standing/walking/sitting for an entire shift
- Applicant must be able to perform skill tests/drills successfully
- Applicant must be able to remain vigilant and on task for long periods of time
- Possess the desire and ability to develop good character in others
- Must attend all required staff meetings and trainings
- Requires ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with subordinates, other Village employees and the general public
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide necessary supervision to prevent accidents
- Initiate Emergency Action Plan if necessary
- Administer proper first-aid
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of issued equipment
- Keep the aquatics area free of dangerous debris
- Immediately report any needed repairs to the Pool Manager or Aquatic Supervisor
- Perform alert and preventative guarding
- Responsible for helping maintain cleanliness of pool area
- Be professional, alert, courteous, and always tactful
- Adhere to assigned dress code and policies and procedures
- Communicate needs, ideas, complaints and suggestions to supervisor
