Vincennes University has an open position for a Maintenance Associate - Housing. The Maintenance Repair Associate is responsible for minor repairs in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry. Actual responsibilities contingent on the needs of the department and the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair lights by changing bulbs and ballasts.
- Repairs and performs preventive and general maintenance on all type of HVAC, mechanical and custodial equipment.
- Scheduled cleaning, lubrication, and replacement mechanical equipment, etc.
- Inspects mechanical equipment. Makes minor repairs and recommendations for major repairs.
- Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems with the buildings and mechanical systems
- Checks operation of boilers, swimming pool, cooling towers, and water softeners and other systems and equipment as designated.
- Works independently or with other personnel maintaining equipment
- .Assist other trades with repairs, renovations, and paint, roof or construction-type projects.
- Other duties, within the Physical Plant as assigned
- .Maintains and repairs Fire Alarm, Control, and Security, Electrical, and HVAC systems.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- Related skills in a combination of the following areas: mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, boilers, minor electrical, building trades, and related preventive maintenance, Experience in several of these trades preferred.
- Two years documented experience in maintenance in the institutional, commercial, or industrial environment.
- Interprets and work from rough sketches, drawings and blue prints, and follows both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to instruct assistants and follow instructions. Provide instruction to assistants, and assist with training new co-workers.
- Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, faculty & staff, students and the general public; will be required to work as a member on large projects.
- May work under emergency and difficult situations.
- Experienced and comfortable working in heights with agility and balance, on scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.
- Will respond to emergency situations and call-ins. Able to work with limited supervision.
- Skilled in the operation and use of tools, chemicals, materials, and equipment of the building maintenance.
- May be required to perform weekend/holiday building checks on rotation, carry a pager, and respond to pager calls.
- Maybe required to work different shifts and hours.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Standing, bending, climbing, carrying, reaching, handling, and use of fingers 50% or more of the work day.
- Regular attendance is required for this position. Actual schedule contingent upon the needs of the department and Vincennes University.
- Works both indoors and outdoors, occasionally under inclement weather conditions.
- Works in close proximity to electrical/HVAC equipment.
