Duties
- Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate codes using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Ensure accurate documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered to facilitate proper billing.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies or incomplete information in medical records.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance standards related to medical billing and coding.
- Utilize various coding software and systems to input data accurately into electronic health records (EHR).
- Assist in the training of new staff on coding practices and procedures as needed.
- Conduct regular audits of coded records to ensure accuracy and adherence to established protocols.
- Support the medical billing department by providing necessary coding information for claims processing.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical coding, with proficiency in ICD-9 and ICD-10 systems.
- Familiarity with Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Experience working in a medical office setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and healthcare reimbursement methodologies.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate data entry and record keeping.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is a plus but not mandatory.
