POSITION TITLE: Shipping Manager
POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of Logistics
DEPARTMENT: Production and Logistics
POSITION EFFECTIVE: 8/12/2024
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Shipping Manager will organize and oversee a team of employees and ensure that products are properly loaded for shipment in accordance with the shipping plan and quality and safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures adherence to safe and efficient loading, unloading and delivery standards in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Staffs, trains, evaluates and develops shipping team members
- Monitors employee productivity and timekeeping
- Consults with production and fulfillment teams to plan and execute daily shipping plan for primary and 3rd party distribution centers
- Monitors freight movement using various computer software applications.
- Ensures that product loads are built and delivered to company standards
- Manages transportation service provider relationships
- Develops, leads, and executes continuous improvement activities i.e., safety, cost/efficiency and engagement for shipping and transportation programs
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers
- Solves problems and resolves conflicts
- Effectively communicates to all levels of the organization
- Effectively manages company assets
- Ensures compliance of all Department of Transportation (DOT) laws and policies
- Other projects or duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has direct reports.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ERP experience a plus
- Ability to manage and coordinate a variety of shipping methods
- Strong understanding of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, DOT Regulations, and other related safety policies and best practices
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma
- 5 years of leadership experience in Transportation, Supply Chain, Logistics, and/or Distribution, with a strong preference for a background in customized manufacturing solutions
- Strong understanding of logistics, supply chain management, and inventory control
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work in hot and cold climates
- Varying work schedules based on business need are sometimes required
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard
- Ability to read a variety of materials
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to carry and lift materials up to 25 lbs.
