The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is searching for an exceptional communicator who can effectively share their enthusiasm for education and conservation with a wide range of audiences, from young children to adults, and across various learning styles. The ideal candidate for this Program Educator I position possesses strong interpersonal skills, fosters an inclusive environment, and can inspire and guide a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
Duties include the following:
- Provide outstanding guest service and create memorable guest experiences.
- Use appropriate engagement techniques to educate guests from diverse backgrounds and communicate educational and conservation messages in a fun and meaningful way.
- Mentor, train, and assess hourly staff and volunteers to ensure information accuracy and that high guest engagement standards are consistent.
- Conduct engaging programs for diverse audiences of all sizes, handle live animals, and conduct live animal programs.
- Comfortable speaking to public in one-on-one settings and to large public groups.
- Serve as the educator-on-duty to ensure daily gallery operations are running smoothly.
- Coordinate daily schedules for guest engagement staff and conduct daily walkthroughs in the morning and throughout the day to ensure engagement areas are staffed and equipped appropriately.
- Create content for new and relevant program ideas as needed.
- Check-in volunteers during daily pre-shift meetings and coordinate the daily volunteer rotation schedule.
- Update hourly staff and volunteers of changes within the Aquarium.
- Conduct introductory volunteer classes and training virtually and in person.
