Housekeeping Manager

Position Primary Purpose and General Duties: The Housekeeping Manager ensures that the University Student Commons and surrounding outside areas are maintained in clean condition in compliance with USC Housekeeping Performance Standards (“Standards”) and the highest industry standards through individual work and contributing efforts as part of the overall housekeeping team; supervises all housekeeping personnel for both the Student Commons and Hunton Student Center. Provides initial and on-going housekeeper training per USC Housekeeping Standards for all housekeeping staff members to improve efficiency; manages timekeeping through RealTime; conducts inspection tours to check housekeeping of public areas, offices, restrooms, and meeting and event spaces of the University Student Commons; maintains inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment; orders supplies and equipment; processes maintenance requests of equipment.

Minimum Hiring Standards: 

-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Ability to understand and explain University and Commons policies
-Ability to read and interpret complex service contracts and detailed evaluation criteria
-Ability to work independently and as a team
-Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills
-Demonstrate good judgment skills in making decisions which balance customer benefit and facility/operational interests
-Attention to detail
-Take initiative
-Ability to work with a culturally diverse population in a higher education setting
-Successful past employment in an administrative capacity
-Some computer experience
-High school graduate or equivalent
-Valid Driver’s License
-Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a diverse, multi-cultural and complex environment, fostering diverse faculty, staff, and students as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

-Knowledge of commercial cleaning
-Several years experience in facility management or hospitality/service industry in a
coordinating or administrative capacity
-Bachelor’s degree
