Core Responsibilities

- Supervise a team of regional full-time and part-time professionals to accomplish goals of the department for student recruitment ensuring staff have access to appropriate recruitment and admissions training and professional development opportunities.
- Conduct research to determine, create, and implement effective student recruitment strategies including use of multimedia tools such as publications, web-based information, and marketing to drive student enrollment and increase yield.
- Assist with the planning of general on- and off-campus recruitment and yield events.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships including with colleagues in academic units, community-based groups, and out-of-state school counselors and community college personnel.
- Conduct research to determine, create, and implement effective student recruitment strategies including use of multimedia tools such as publications, web-based information, and marketing to drive out-of-state student enrollment and increase yield and enhance the campus visitation experience.
- Actively recruits prospective students by attending college day/night programs, college fairs, visiting high schools and community colleges. Travels both in-state and out-of-state for the university including weekends.
- Evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for future programming. Represents the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at special events, on- and off-campus, including, but not limited to, open houses, yield events, panel discussions and scholarship ceremonies. Works with university faculty and staff to assist with university and departmental events.
- Accurately reviews and evaluates applicant credentials in a timely manner to determine their admissibility to the university based on criteria for admission.
- Visit community colleges on a semester basis and offer follow up one-on-one guidance to prospective transfer students (specifically students in the Adult Learner and veteran community.)
- Manages applicant caseload efficiently, reviewing applications when they are submitted for an admissions decision.
- Makes contact with students and school counselors when applicant information is incomplete.
- Conduct information sessions, in-person and virtually, and lead campus tours.
- Counsels prospective students on their admissibility to the university.
- Responds to email inquiries sent to the Office of Admissions generic email account as well as to emails sent to the employee’s individual VCU email account
- Communicates effectively with prospective students, parents, high school guidance and college counselors, and other high school and community college personnel via letters, emails, and phone
- Participates in phone campaigns and other electronic marketing communications as needed.
- Assists in developing and implementing strategies and programming, particularly for bringing more students to visit campus throughout the year, and for increasing yield in general.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists middle and secondary school students in understanding how to prepare for college and to be successful after enrolling in college
- Build and establish partnerships with the VCU Office of Alumni Relations to attend chapter related activities to promote recruitment efforts.
- Oversee the School Counselor Visitation Program for out-of-state counselors. Create and execute new recruitment programming especially designed for School Counselors in targeted out of state markets.
- Develops relationships with key personnel in assigned markets.
Minimum Hiring Standards: .
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent applicable experience and education.
- Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
- Ability to use Office products including PowerPoint.
- Ability to provide clear direction and establish efficient priorities.
- Enthusiasm to travel for extended periods.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A current driver’s license and current car insurance.
- Ability to work some hours over the University’s winter break.
- Ability to obtain and manage a VCU travel card.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Must have a valid driver license and car insurance.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Master’s Degree
- Experience in higher education, admissions, or recruitment experience.
- Prior recruitment experience at a four-year institution
- Knowledge of VCU programs or prior experience as a VCU student.
- Previous customer service and public speaking experience.
- Experience with Slate Technolutions CRM, Banner Student Information System and ImageNow imaging software.
- This is a Hybrid work arrangement, with up to 40% work from home ability.

- Travel is required – Trips with total mileage beyond 25 miles will be reimbursed, appropriate hotel and per diem expenses will also be provided.
- Weekends and evening work is common and expected including working hours over winter break.
