Job Duties
The Office of Teacher Licensure is seeking a qualified candidate to interpret Virginia’s Licensure Regulations for School Personnel and issue licenses to qualified applicants and to provide technical expertise to school personnel in local school divisions, institutions of higher education, Department of Education employees and to the general public; and to review and analyze credentials making accurate and consistent decisions based upon all factors to ensure compliance with the Code of Virginia, the Licensure Regulations for School Personnel and Department of Education policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of public school organization and practices as well as knowledge of state government operations.
Considerable knowledge of the statutes, rules, policies and guidelines relating to issuing teacher licenses in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
Working knowledge of the components of graduate and undergraduate programs.
Knowledge of the educator licensure record system and record keeping process preferred.
Proficiency in word processing and data entry to include Microsoft Word and Excel, with advanced keyboarding skills required; aptitude with operating printers, copiers, and other general office equipment.
Demonstrated ability to collect and record significant data for eligibility for licensure; process, code and enter licensure applications for printing; and generate reports on educator licensure activity.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the general public, college administration, faculty and licensure officers, school administrators, teachers and applicants.
Ability to organize and manage large volumes of work.
Ability to work independently and amicably in a busy work area and maintain highly effective teamwork and organizational skills; and maintain effective work relations with co-workers, technical personnel, and the public.
Additional Considerations
Bachelor’s degree in education or comparable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; teaching license and/or experience with an educational agency.
Experience in the analysis of information to determine compliance with rules, laws and regulations preferred.
