Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) is located in Charlottesville, found in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. DOF's Finance and Procurement team is seeking a qualified Accountant to provide fiscal support toward cost-share programs, federal grants, and other special funding sources for the Agency.
The incumbent, reporting directly to the Senior Accountant - Grants Analyst, will be responsible for providing technical support for the WebGrants software, System Access Portal (SAP) and assisting with quarterly accounts receivable reporting and year-end financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of grant accounting and reporting requirements, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across various departments.
The following abilities are necessary to be successful in this position: Ability to multi-task, work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to internal employees and other stakeholders; Ability to interpret and apply policy, rules and regulations; Ability to reconcile internal fiscal records to external systems; Ability to compile information for reports or projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in accounting and reporting; Proficient knowledge of computer applications, specifically Excel and its associated functions/capabilities; Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP).
Additional Considerations
Basic understanding of federal grant administration requirements contained in 2 CFR 200; Experience with automated financial systems used in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
