Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
Provides professional operational support to the Executive Director for the Board of Nursing by managing and coordinating advanced practice registered nursing practice disciplinary processes, participating in nursing discipline processes, and assisting the Executive Director on matters related to board policy, management and operations related to the Committee of Joint Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of the laws, regulations and procedures associated with the regulation of nursing practice and with adjudication of disciplinary cases.
Extensive knowledge of Advanced Practice nursing roles and the associated regulatory implications from a state and national perspective.
Knowledge of educational preparation and national specialty certifications requirements for advanced practice nursing.
Effective analytical, problem-solving skills, Microsoft Office Suite skills and automatic tracking systems in a Windows environment .
Demonstrated ability to analyze patient treatment records, legal documents and technical material to perform probable cause review and make case management decisions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with agency personnel, board members, licensees and the public, including the ability to prepare official case documents and supplemental case reports.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage and supervise employees, including the ability to establish and evaluate performance goals.
Additional Considerations
Considerable advanced practice nursing experience, some of which must have been progressive experience in a nursing leadership position.
Experience in management and direct supervision of professional and paraprofessional staff.
Experience in regulatory / legal environment
Experience or knowledge of APRN roles in a variety of practice settings
