Job Duties

The Department of Taxation is seeking an accounting professional to fill the position of Accounts Payable Accountant. This position will process all agency invoices in the Cardinal accounting system, help ensure bills are paid timely and accurately, and will assist the Accounts Payable Supervisor with keying information related to travel vouchers, the small purchase charge card, fixed assets, leases, and the agency chart of accounts.



This position is located in our Central Office in downtown Richmond, Virginia.


This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule once fully trained.


The anticipated hiring salary is commensurate with experience, up to $67,000

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)


Experience with data analysis and skilled with using Microsoft Excel


Experience creating accounting entries in Cardinal or other accounting systems


Experience working in accounts payable and tasks such as processing invoices, verifying purchase orders, reconciling discrepancies, preparing payments and/or maintaining accurate financial and accounting records.


Excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization


Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail


Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge/experience/abilities working with accounting principles to include reconciliations, budgeting and financial statements


Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound accounting decisions
