Essential Duties and Qualifications
Virginia Health Services is hiring a Wound Care Nurse, RN to work at James River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located in Newport News, VA. This is an exciting new opportunity to be apart of the leadership team and learn new skills! This position is a Full Time opportunity that will include working Monday - Friday, 8am-4:30pm, with a possibility of occasional weekends.
The Wound Care Nurse has the following responsibilities:
- Performs dressing changes for pressure ulcers/other wounds as directed.
- Documents pressure ulcer measurements weekly.
- Provides care plan interventions to prevent and promote healing of pressure ulcers.
- Documents wound assessment weekly in Nurse’s Notes
- Assures responsible party and physician are notified of wound changes.
- Makes rounds with the wound care physician, contacts attending physician for orders and assures follow up to promote wound healing.
- Monitors and manages systems as directed by the DON.
- Performs staff education as directed.
- Complies with all established policies and procedures.
- Attends and participates in committees as assigned.
- Promotes and demonstrates positive customer service towards VHS, co-workers, residents and visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and holds current Virginia license.
- Wound Care Certification is preferred but not required. If not certified, VHS will cover costs and provide resources to obtain certification through the American Board of Wound Management.
- Experience and education in Gerontological Nursing is required.
- Computer knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret information.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, turn, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, reach, talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and move up to 50 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials.
