VHCC is seeking a full-time Director of Budget & Finance. The successful candidate must be highly organized and enjoy working within an environment that is mission-driven, fast-paced, and results-oriented. Successful candidate will work at the VHCC campus in Abingdon; this is not a remote work position. Salary: Minimum $70,000 commensurate with experience.
Position Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Director of Budget & Finance will provide leadership in budget development, strategic financial planning, reporting and compliance. These include managing the accounting department, grant disbursements, budget development and reporting, financial statement preparation, audits, and the Agency Risk Management Internal Control Standards (ARMICS). This position is responsible for monitoring and reconciling revenue and expenses for the college. The director provides leadership to develop/utilize financial tools to monitor and report on the college’s financial position and to perform process improvements. Ensures compliance with and provides training on policies, procedures, and regulations related to the management of Federal, Local and Commonwealth funds.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in accounting, finance, business, or a business-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required.
- Demonstrated working experience with budgets and budget administration with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, budgeting and/or fiscal operations.
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing financial information systems (like PeopleSoft and Cardinal), dashboards to analyze and assess financial operations, and experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to assemble, analyze, prepare, reconcile, and present complex financial data and reports.
- Demonstrated professionalism in writing, communication and collaboration skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to independently research, investigate, analyze, reconcile and evaluate revenue and expense data and reports from multiple sources.
- Extensive experience (typically 10 years) in finance and/or accounting and/or Master’s degree in business, accounting or finance.
- Experience with specific state and College systems such as eVA, Cardinal, SIS, AIS, Perceptive Content, etc.
- Experience with a public institution of higher education, preferably in community college; and
- Experience working with state account functions and fund management.
