Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, Administrative and Office Specialist III position in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This position provides secretarial support for the division dean, supervises part-time clerical support for the program heads and faculty, and office management leadership essential to the operation of the School of STEM. Manages day-to-day problems, information requests, and work actions to ensure that the volume of work is completed in a timely manner and that the school operates smoothly.
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience providing administrative support in an office environment. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with a commitment to encouraging and fostering student success. Ability to explain, interpret, and apply with good judgment, college and school policies and procedures. Ability to analyze state and federal regulations and apply them appropriately. Excellent skills in computer and related software to include running queries for report completions, and operation of office equipment. Experience serving diverse populations. Knowledge of the basic procedures for establishing and maintaining files and records; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; skills in typing, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Ability to independently write letters of correspondence and to prepare reports and memoranda; strong interpersonal skills; ability to manage people in trying situations; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; ability to supervise other support personnel; and ability to maintain utmost confidentiality.
Additional Considerations :
Administrative Support experience in Community College setting preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft software and eVA preferred.
Salary : $32,843 - $55,000
