Brightpoint Community College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Military & Veteran Services/VERITAS Liaison (ADVS). The ADVS will oversee the Military and Veterans Education office, managing all aspects of staff performance including supervision, training and evaluation. This role will provide comprehensive enrollment advising and funding resource services to current and prospective veteran and active-military students. The ADVS will possess in-depth knowledge of college policies and procedures, including application, enrollment, placement, payment, and orientation, and will be familiar with the College’s transfer, occupational, technical, and workforce programs. The incumbent will focus on helping veterans and military-affiliated students overcome barriers to their educational goals and assist and monitor their progress toward success, particularly in achieving degree or certificate completion. The selected candidate will also connect students with relevant institutional, local, state, and federal resources. Strong collaboration with college departments and external organizations is essential for success in this position.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- In depth knowledge of the VA education benefits; state regulations and state education benefits for veterans and eligible persons; Active-Duty Tuition Assistance programs; MyCAA Scholarship; Department of Defense MOU Compliance.
- School’s academic programs: what are the currently offered programs, what programs have been recently discontinued, or are planned to be discontinued.
- School’s academic policies and approval criteria such as, satisfactory academic progress, academic probation, termination, readmission, prior credit, etc.
- Must know and maintain current knowledge of complex federal regulations, and PeopleSoft upgrades and fixes.
- Excellent oral and written communication; interpersonal skills; problem solving ability; computer skills (spreadsheet, data entry, automated correspondence skills, etc.) and tracking/record keeping skills.
- Experience working with VA and DOD portals to include AI Portal, Navy TA Portal, Army Ignited, and Enrollment Manager (formerly VA ONCE). Experienced in assisting adult learners within a college or military environment; managing account reconciliation; working with relational databases, and operating in a highly-regulated setting where work is subject to external audits to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- The ability to serve as a student advocate and institutional representative.
- Demonstrated ability to independently supervise, train, evaluate and direct the work of the Military & Veteran Services Unit.
- Ability to work in a team environment; to understand, interpret and apply complex federal regulations, conduct research, detailed information analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Must have the ability to work independently and directly with outside agencies (VCCS, SAA, VA, and SCHEV) and commercial representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and represent all aspects of the College in interactions with internal and external entities regarding all military and veteran matters.
- Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff, including those from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience demonstrating strong leadership abilities, positively influencing others while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas.
- Experience with military organization and administration and working with Veteran Affairs benefits in a college environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of all chapter benefits within VA system. Must be a Certifying Official with the VA.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, or related field preferred.
