Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

This position is responsible for performing a range of fiscal and administrative duties. It supports various aspects of Time and Labor Management, Human Resources, and Payroll processes. Duties include verifying contract amounts, ensuring accurate submission of timesheets, completing annual reporting, and performing calculations related to payments and withholdings.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Significant relevant work-related experience within HR/Payroll
  • Considerable experience working with payroll software and Human Resources information system(s).
  • Significant experience with time and labor management, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Proven expertise in payroll administration, with comprehensive experience in related processes and procedures.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR and Payroll policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in utilizing computerized information systems for human resources and payroll functions.
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations, including withholdings, deductions, and reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with conducting payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Knowledge, Comprehensive understanding of business management and financial practices, supporting efficient operations.
  • Familiarity with FLSA laws related to wages, overtime, and benefits.
  • Proficient in time and labor practices, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Understanding of federal and state labor laws regarding payroll and employee benefits.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll processes, including federal and multi-state tax regulations.
