Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

TCC’s Center for Workforce Solutions provides a pipeline of qualified employees through relevant and continuing education opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. The Workforce Solutions Project Coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of TCC training initiatives associated with grants, specific industry clusters and any special initiatives resulting from program development and growth. The coordinator reports to the Associate Vice President for Workforce Solutions.

The purpose of this position is to coordinate training programs that prepare candidates to meet the workforce needs of local employers, particularly in the fields related to the maritime industry’s ecosystem, to include maritime, clean energy, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, construction and other industry sectors as appropriate. Training programs may be open enrollment or customized to meet the needs of regional industries and employers.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Ability to manage projects/programs including establishing deadlines, tracking progress, and conducting evaluations
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate people and tasks in a highly complex work environment.
  • Working knowledge of adult training, development and evaluation, teaching aids and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research, analyze data, prepare reports and make recommendations and decisions using evaluative criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal and external constituencies in a persuasive and professional manner, including articulating the college’s message while establishing cooperative working relationships with a diverse array of individuals contacted in the course of the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to make oral and written presentations and to develop training proposals.

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
