Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Student Engagement Specialist will work in-person and virtually to engage all learners with experiences that align with their interest, location, commitments and aspirations. Serving as a vital resource, the Student Engagement Specialist will provide exceptional student programs and services by providing information, guidance, and oversight in the areas of student programs, events/activities, and student club/organizations.
This position is dedicated to serving a diverse student body that reflects the richness of Virginia’s population, with over 40 percent of students coming from racially and ethnically diverse background. The support student retention and student development, the Student Engagement Specialist will proactively engage with students, maintain appropriate records, and connect students to opportunities and resources available.
The Student Engagement Specialist will leverage various technology tools to enhance the department, participate in ongoing training and professional development, and contribute to the overall mission and strategic goals of the college.
The Student Engagement Specialist should be skilled in applying student development theories to support the academic and personal growth of a diverse student body while providing exceptional, student-centered service and experiences.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Possess comprehensive knowledge of student development programs, student event planning and marketing, and student leadership development.
- Proficiency in interpreting institutional policies and procedures is crucial in ensuring a seamless experience for our students and community.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to foster positive relationships while working independently and as part of a team.
- The Specialist should be adept at using technology to manage event planning, student engagement and data effectively.
- Demonstrate cultural competency, creating an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrates continuous professional development to remain current with student engagement best practices and institutional goals,
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with coursework in counseling, education, human services, or related field is strongly preferred.
- Current work experience in a college environment is also preferred.
