Job Description
This position will coordinate HR activities and serve as an operational process champion for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The successful candidate will be highly organized, maintain a professional demeanor, and adapt readily to evolving strategic priorities.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, this role will primarily oversee HR system administration (currently PageUp), supporting employees throughout their lifecycle—from position descriptions and recruitment to immigration, onboarding, orientation, promotion, and separation. The candidate will provide guidance on university, college, and departmental personnel policies and procedures, assisting employees and search committees. Additional HR responsibilities include correspondence, allocation tracking, affiliate and seasonal appointments, and preparing various HR forms, among other administrative duties. Strong mathematical skills are essential, as some tasks require complex calculations. The selected candidate must handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and work effectively within a diverse, multicultural team environment.
Operational responsibilities include serving as the department’s leave representative, assisting with payroll processing inquiries, and facilitating university processes such as compliance reporting, records management, and inventory.

Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a business or human resources related field, or significant related work experience in HR or fiscal roles.
- Demonstrated ability in process development/documentation
- Demonstrated work providing strong communication, presentation, writing, and business computing skills are essential, using the Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrated abilities using math for analysis and/or financial calculations in prior position(s)
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related or human resources field
- Demonstrated experience using Banner, PageUp, MicroStrategy, TimeClock Plus, and other VT enterprise systems
- Experience in higher education or a non-profit organization, with understanding of fund accounting
- Significant proven skills in human resources and payroll processing
- Knowledge and prior application of Virginia Tech policies and procedures
- Experience working in a shared computing environment such as Google, MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.
