Position: AVP of Strategic Sourcing (Insulation)
Location: Roanoke, VA
Reports To: Vice President of Supply Chain
Position Summary:
Virginia Transformer is seeking an experienced AVP of Strategic Sourcing to lead the insulation sourcing strategy across our operations. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic procurement plans for insulation materials, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and supply reliability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in sourcing materials for transformer manufacturing, strong supply chain leadership, and a proven track record in operations supply chain management.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management:
- Develop and implement a strategic sourcing plan for insulation materials, including pressboard, Nomex, kraft paper, and other critical materials.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and long-term supply agreements with key suppliers.
- Cost Optimization:
- Drive cost savings initiatives by identifying cost reduction opportunities, leveraging economies of scale, and improving supplier efficiencies.
- Analyze market trends and conduct cost analysis to forecast and manage price fluctuations.
Operations and Supply Chain Leadership:
- Lead cross-functional collaboration between supply chain, production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure insulation materials meet technical specifications and operational requirements.
- Oversee procurement planning, inventory optimization, and supplier performance to ensure timely and efficient production.
- Drive supply chain initiatives to reduce lead times, optimize material flow, and enhance overall operational performance.
Supplier Performance and Risk Management:
- Establish supplier performance metrics and conduct regular reviews to ensure on-time delivery, quality, and cost targets are met.
- Mitigate supply chain risks by diversifying suppliers and establishing contingency plans.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement best practices for strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement processes.
- Lead initiatives to digitize and modernize the sourcing process, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency.
Compliance and Sustainability:
- Ensure procurement practices comply with company policies and industry regulations.
- Drive sustainability initiatives by sourcing environmentally responsible materials and promoting supplier sustainability practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive experience in sourcing insulation or similar materials within the transformer, electrical, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong background in operations supply chain management, including production support and supplier integration.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Deep understanding of supplier relationship management and risk mitigation strategies.
- Analytical skills with experience in cost modeling, market analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement tools.
