What are the responsibilities and job description for the In-Home Life Skills Instructor position at Vista Autism Services?
The IIH Life Skills Instructor provides services to individuals with autism in their homes and in the community. This role focuses on all aspects of integration, including gaining exposure to and exploring a variety of activities and experiences that build the skills necessary to gain independence in the home and in the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Delivers services that consist of support in the general areas of self-care, communication, fine and gross motor skills, mobility, therapeutic activities, personal adjustment, relationship development, socialization, in both the individual’s home, and community setting.
- Assists individuals in acquiring, maintaining, and improving self-help, domestic, socialization, and adaptive skills that will lead to their ability to become more independent with life skills.
- In-home staff for clients with disabilities may perform a variety of essential tasks, including assisting individuals with daily personal hygiene routines like bathing, toothbrushing, and dressing. They also provide support with household tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes, cleaning, cooking meals, and doing laundry.
- Facilitates the acquisition of skills that enhance community integration and promote advancement in competitive employment opportunities. Collects data monitoring performance of the individuals supported and records progress related to identified outcomes.
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills to address challenges promptly and proactively.
- Records billing promptly upon service delivery, and fulfills other necessary paperwork as assigned.
- Completes Electronic Visit Verifications (EVVs) for each delivery of service.
- Transports individuals to and from specified community-based locations as needed.
- Adheres to all assigned schedules, including punctual arrival and departure, requesting advance time off, and promptly informing the supervisor of any changes to the assigned work schedule.
- Effectively utilizes technology to enhance service delivery, troubleshoots technology issues for seamless service, collaborates with IT for system maintenance and upgrades, and adheres to privacy and security protocols for electronic information.
- Effectively treats individuals with dignity and respect by recognizing and valuing their inherent worth and unique perspectives.
- Effectively communicates with stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment, and informed decision-making.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, running, and crawling, often for extended periods of the workday. Assignments may require the ability to physically move clients during possible physical interventions to maintain a safe learning environment.
The position requires that an individual be able to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. Job requirements may change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved, instructions is mandatory. The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations as needed, when needed to conduct organizational business. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
EXPECTED SCHEDULE
This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week position, Monday thru Friday with varying shifts between 8am-5pm, as determined by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum High School diploma or GED required
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products and Internet applications required
- Strong computer and typing skills required
- Community Participation Support Training required within 60 days of hire
- Clean driving record (no more than 2 moving violations in a 3-year span), valid PA driver’s license, current vehicle inspection, up-to-date vehicle registration, and proof of adequate insurance coverage required
- Successful completion of Vista’s Crisis Intervention training
- Successful completion of ODP medication administration training.
- Required passing of all pre-employment regulatory and safety-sensitive employee requirements including, but not limited to, PPD testing, physical exam, and drug tests
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in related-service field highly desired
- Experience working with individuals with Autism using principles of ABA highly desired
- Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills
- Effectively manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines
