Vista Equity Partners is seeking a Security Engineer to join our growing cybersecurity team. This role is crucial in maintaining the organization’s security posture by building, deploying, and maintaining our cybersecurity countermeasures along with collaborating across the IT organization to ensure security is considered and implemented throughout technology systems and projects. This role will report to the head of security architecture and engineering
This role can be located in Austin, TX or New York, NY and is for an immediate start.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure Azure cloud architectures, ensuring that security is integrated at every layer of the environment.
- Assist with product selection, proof-of-concepts, integrations and custom development of new cybersecurity capabilities and countermeasures.
- Deploy cybersecurity countermeasures in the environment and coach the security operations team on their use.
- Serve as the primary security systems administrator for the Vista security stack
- Collaborate with core engineering team members to ensure security is integrated into their projects (Azure dev, M365 enhancements, SaaS config and deployments)
- Collaborate with the data team to ensure security of the data lakehouse both from in-motion, at-rest and in-use perspectives.
- Support the security operations team by building new features, customizing products, writing scripts, and automating tasks.
- Assist the core engineering and infrastructure teams with debugging, mitigating conflicts and performing root cause analysis when cybersecurity tools cause issues
- Support the teams performing patching and configuration management with hands-on assistance.
- Serve as escalation assistance for the SOC during the more serious cybersecurity incidents.
- Stay updated on emerging threat intelligence, security trends, and best practices related to cloud security, SaaS applications, and cybersecurity technologies.
- Leverage AI, Automation, and other cutting-edge technologies to increase the overall capacity of the cybersecurity team.
Qualifications
- Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles including malware, phishing and network security
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash to automate security processes, policies, and incident responses in Azure.
- Experience with Infrastructure as a Code (IaaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates) to ensure security configurations are reproducible and consistent.
- Understanding of security principles related to managing SaaS applications including SSO, MFA, API management, Data protection and Azure Conditional Access.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols, VPNs, and Firewalls
- Experience with securing both Windows and Mac endpoints.
- Dev/Sec/Ops experience: containerization and orchestration, configuration management, version control, Infrastructure as Code
- Knowledge of secrets management, SAST/DAST, open source/SBOM monitoring, and other application development best practices.
- Knowledge of data platform (i.e. Snowflake) security best practices.
- Experience as a security operations professional (red or blue team) a plus.
- Experience with AI, in particular writing agents.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3 years of progressive experience as a Cybersecurity professional working within an enterprise environment (Prefer Azure Experience)
- 3 years of hands-on experience implementing, administrating and operating information security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, Antivirus
- Proficiency with scripting (PowerShell, python, etc.), automation, and APIs
- Ability to read and understand code
- Hands-on experience implementing, administrating and operating security technologies
- Ability to show discretion and poise in all situations
- Ability to treat sensitive/confidential information appropriately
- Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness
- The ability to function professionally under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- CISSP, GSEC, CEH, Security or similar information security certification
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for security and continuous learning.
- A mindset to automate everything.
The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $105,000 - $160,000. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed and the applicant's skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
