Job Title: Cobol Programmer Location: Metro Detroit area, Michigan
Vital Tech Solutions is seeking an experienced COBOL Programmer to support and maintain the legacy systems within a Government system. This role will involve developing, enhancing, and troubleshooting COBOL-based applications used by the courts to manage case data, legal records, and other judicial processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in COBOL programming, an understanding of legal systems, and the ability to work in a collaborative, government-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance and Enhancements:..
- Maintain and enhance COBOL-based applications that handle case management, scheduling, court records, and reporting for the court system.
- Troubleshoot and debug existing code, ensuring systems are running efficiently and effectively.
- Modify and update legacy applications to meet the evolving needs of the court system while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Application Development:
- Design, develop, and implement new COBOL programs and functionalities based on the needs of the court system.
- Write detailed technical documentation for new and existing programs to ensure clarity and ease of future modifications.
- Collaborate with legal and court system staff to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Data Management:
- Manage and support database interactions, ensuring accurate data flow between COBOL programs and relational databases (e.g., DB2, Oracle, or SQL).
- Assist in data migration from older systems to newer platforms, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of judicial data.
System Integration and Testing:
- Ensure seamless integration between COBOL applications and other systems used in the court environment (e.g., document management systems, legal research databases).
- Conduct unit, integration, and system testing to validate system functionality and integrity.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with the IT support team to ensure smooth operation of COBOL applications withinthe court system.
- Provide technical support and training to court personnel and other stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of experience in COBOL programming.
- Previous experience working with a Government or judicial systems is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with legacy systems and understanding the specific needs of a court system is an advantage.
- Proficiency in COBOL programming language and related tools.
- Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., DB2, Oracle, or SQL) and SQL scripting.
- Experience with mainframe systems, IBM z/OS, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with system integration and batch processing.
- Experience with additional programming languages (e.g., Java, C ) or web technologies.
- Familiarity with Agile or other modern software development methodologies.
- Experience in system migration and modernization projects.
