Job Summary
The primary function of the Medical Records Specialist is to maintain the electronic medical records of patients. The Medical Records Specialist is also responsible for the collection of physician orders, lab results, and other critical information needed to maintain an updated Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Responsibilities
- Organizes, sorts, and maintains documentation in patient electronic medical records in a timely manner.
- Completes workflow tasks and other assignments to the Medical Records Specialist Responsible Position in the Agency’s electronic medical record.
- Uploads documents into the EMR, e.g., physician orders, paper visits, lab reports, as needed. Uses software, when available, to assist in uploading documents to the EMR. Sends and collects orders from physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and/or Physician Assistants. Uses EMR Order Tracking Notes consistently in the collection of orders.
- Collaborates with members of the Sales team in the collection of orders.
- Promotes the agency philosophy and mission by presenting a positive image to patients/families, physicians, and community agencies.
- Assists with communications which may include phone system, memo’s, answers incoming calls, documents, and disseminates appropriate messages.
- Provide effective communication to patient/family, team members, and other health care professionals and maintains confidentiality.
Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate (College Preferred).
Experience: One-year general office experience preferred. HCHB and Forcura experience preferred.
Skills: Computer skills preferred, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Transportation: Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto liability insurance.
