Job Description

The Global Risk team is split across 3 sites – Houston (2 members), Singapore (2 members) and London (7 members). The objective of the Risk team is to encourage and ensure responsible risk taking and to mitigate trading loss. The team aims to highlight potential risk issues and to escalate as required. Further to that the team ensures best practise of PNL & MTM modelling of complex physical business with oversight of Middle Office. The responsibilities are wide, varied and challenging. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn, experience different dimensions and grow areas of responsibility to someone that can show they can deliver independently.

This is an entry level position in the Risk department. As a Junior Risk Analyst you will support the firm-wide risk monitoring framework. This includes, but not limited to, VAR monitoring & analysis, position monitoring, scenario analysis, factor analysis & liquidity analysis.  

Based in London, the Junior Risk Analyst will have responsibility for:

• Developing and maintaining pricing/risk tools for brokers and risk using excel/python either through developing models or enhancing existing models
• Conducting ad-hoc market analysis, as required by brokers, risk and management
• Define market data and valuation model methodology
• Resolving position and VAR issues and ensure accuracy at all times
• Understanding how daily market moves are impacting the company market risk
• Keeping the risk team informed on market risks through use of proprietary reporting tools as well as self-developed solutions
• Identifying and executing on value-add projects related to risk & valuation using data, financial modelling and technology
• Develop such that they progress to take interventional steps on behalf of the Risk Team with risk takers
• Working with the Risk Team technical lead on team wide projects to extend the function (python)

You will be able learn from a senior developer within the Risk team to further technical skills and whilst having an excellent opportunity to gain commercial knowledge from senior Risk Managers and Brokers directly.

Qualifications

What you need to bring

• 1-2 years of work experience in a related role at an energy trader, Investment bank, or consultancy. 
• Degree in Maths, Science, Engineering or Computer Science from a top university
• Interest in Python
• Entrepreneurial drive, ability to work independently as well as in a team
• Excellent problem-solving skills – able to find pragmatic solutions with an analytical mindset
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to convey complex concepts in simple terms
• Full proficiency communicating in English in a business context (verbally & in writing)

Additional qualifications that can help you stand out

• Previous experience in the commodities and/or derivatives trading industry
• Previous experience in software design & development
