What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Launch Engineer position at Vitro?
Overview
This position is responsible for leading and coordinating new product launch activities and implementation of tooling and product changes within the operation.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates Plant Readiness for Launches and reflects status in the local Obeya Process (VOPEX Launch Board assignments).
- Coordinates Plant Deliverables within program timelines (meet customer milestones per KPI).
- Product prototypes/pre-launch parts delivered on time and to customer specifications (MRD KPI).
- All required APQP documentation submitted correctly and on time within customer portals as required
- Facilitate customer visits for new product launch or changes
- Support Customer-owned tooling invoicing by mounting tool tags and providing necessary pictures on time.
- Support the local Plant Manager’s System for Management as it relates to new product development and Launch Readiness.
- Support local NPR analyses and actions to perform at quoted rates within the SOP 90 window after Launch.
- Support change control for new parts BOM structures within SAP and Engineering Change Management for current parts.
- Assess local capabilities and recommend direction (with Plant Manager authorization) to Quality, Supply Chain and Value Stream Managers to successfully complete plant launch deliverables on time
Qualifications
Must be familiar with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Quality Systems, FMEA, statistics in manufacturing (6-Sigma)
Experience with Automotive new part introduction / launch activities
Proficient mechanical/technical skills (assembly tooling, MSA for fixtures, gauges, etc.).
Strong time-management skills along with the ability to be self-motivated
Ability to supervise direct hourly reports, but also lead those in a matrix organization with no direct reporting relationship in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects and details simultaneously
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with suppliers / customers, both internal and external to Vitro, across the regions where we operate.
Proficient in MS Office applications to include Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc
Proficiency at navigating OEM Automotive Customer APQP portals for uploading PPAP documentation.
Bachelor’s Degree-BS Engineering / Science preferred, or equivilant
