This role oversees all facets of Vitro’s Architectural Glass Sustainability efforts, ensuring that Vitro products and processes are well positioned with regulations and voluntary government programs. The incumbent will work closely with the Vitro Corporate Sustainability Director and leads the Vitro Architectural Glass Sustainability Leadership team to further Vitro sustainability efforts. The incumbent will manage interpersonal relations and communications concerning sustainability between Vitro associates, sustainability consultants, stakeholders, and customers to further Vitro’s sustainability position in the North American construction market. The incumbent will work directly with the Technical Services leadership team to provide guidance for product development to meet government regulations and providing technical support and direction to strategic customers including product application and fabrication guidelines, enhancing Vitro’s reputation as a leader in providing value-added glazing solutions. The incumbent will provide technical support for Innovation and Product Development efforts as needed and represent Vitro’s interests in industry and trade associations and external stakeholder activities, and further promoting to the construction industry the value adds of Vitro products.
Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years’ experience in float glass manufacturing and fabrication processes and 3 years’ experience in environmental sustainability efforts. An understanding of the glass construction industry and direct customer interaction experience is preferred. Technical comprehension and representation experience with customers is preferred. Travel is estimated at 25 to 50 percent.
The Sustainability, Government Affairs & Technical Services department is responsible for over 300 days/yr. of on-site participation at customer facilities, jobsites, legislator meetings and industry events. The remainder of time is positioned in a professional office environment or home office using standard office equipment. Associates located near Pittsburgh are expected to work 3 days/week at the Vitro Glass Technical Center when not travelling.
The incumbent must have the ability to efficiently conduct overnight travel and host / attend customer and client dinners after normal working hours; Participate in glass and processing evaluations at customer facilities and at customer’s customer jobsites.
Customer audits may require up to eight hours of standing during fabrication process evaluations.

Responsibilities
- Create measurable value by Advancing Vitro’s capabilities to comply with regulation, legislation or national government level programs that require sustainability initiatives that creates new or expanded opportunities for Vitro’s products, creates or maintains a competitive advantage for the company, or reduces costs.
- Using technical knowledge of Vitro’s customer base and the fenestration supply chain to provide input to sustainability legislation and regulations to advance the interests of the entire fenestration industry.
- Manage the internal programs employed to showcase Vitro sustainability compliance efforts such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification, Material Health Certificates, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Conflict Minerals, Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List compliance, Buy American compliance, etc.
- Assists with the development and implementation of the Vitro Sustainability Roadmap in coordination with the Sustainability Team and policy.
- Lead the Vitro Architectural Glass Sustainability Leadership team.
- Assist with the development of policy to capitalize on and/or mitigate risks of increasing sustainability regulations such as the Buy Clean California Act, the Buy Clean Colorado Act, NYC LL97, Boston BEDRO, etc.
- Assists with the development and implementation of technical documentation, audit processes and customer process training to provide value to participants of Vitro Certified™ Network Programs, both commercial and residential.
- Audits may be performed among the NA borders and supporting international customers.
- Able to demonstrate glass performance to meet customer expectations for energy efficiency and aesthetics in the design of new buildings and renovation of existing buildings.
- Able to support proper customer fabrication and application of Vitro glass in buildings.
- Assists with government affairs support and recommendations, in the development of new products and services.
- Provides technical support for Innovation and Product Development efforts as needed.
- Manages customer fabrication trials for new products and services.
- Acts as a customer liaison to the Innovation and R&D organizations.
- Represent Vitro’s sustainability interests and provide professional direction to appropriate trade associations and external stakeholder organizations of the value add of Vitro products to advance Vitro’s interests.
- Provide appropriate communications to Vitro leadership of progress, opportunities, and roadblocks.
- Routine operation of glass measurement equipment such as but not limited to: Portable spectrophotometer; portable digital microscopy; glass product identification devices, etc. is necessary during job-site visits and occasionally during customer visits.
- Lifting of handheld instrumentation and sample glass may be occasionally required.
