Position Summary:
The Accountant reports to the Controller and performs various accounting tasks to include, but is not limited to, processing accounts payable (AP) invoices according to established policies, payroll as the primary back-up, basic general ledger entries, inventory account reconciliations, data requests for cash forecasts, budgets, and performs GL account audits and preparing monthly work-paper reconciliations, etc.
This position is fast-paced with duties that vary depending on organizational need. The ideal candidate is someone who is energetic, enjoys the field of accounting, is naturally inquisitive, demonstrates initiative and enjoys variety in their work. They are exceptionally organized with a mind-set that they are proud of their work product and their details.
Essential Job Functions:
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Process accounts payable transactions according to company policy
- Complies and maintains invoices and accounts payable records
- Reviews all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment
- Secures management approval for invoices prior to payment
- Prepares accounts payable checks
- Responds to vendor inquiries and identifies early pay opportunities
- Maintains vendor accounts by adding and deleting vendors as necessary
Cash Reconciliation
- Daily reconciliation of bank statement transactions for cash on hand accuracy
- Cash application or clearing payments to customer or internal invoices and bank deposit reconciliations
- ACH and EFT clearing to accounts payable billing by vendor
- Merchant Service and ATM credits and fee reconciliations by site and working with the proper bank support teams as needed
Payroll
- Reviews timesheets for accurate time calculation and enters into the Payroll system for processing
- Processes bi-weekly payroll as needed
- Remits child support garnishments to necessary entities
- Reconciles accruals between payroll and HR systems
Inventory
- Reconciles inventory accounts and identifies and resolves discrepancies
Taxes
- Gathers necessary information to complete city and state sales tax
- Researches and resolve accounting problems and errors and makes recommendations for improvements moving forward
Other Job Responsibilities:
- Month end close activities, journal entries, amortization cycles, and any other locations
- Provides phone support for the field and assists with order taking for terminal locations
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
- A minimum of 1 year of related experience
- Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
- Experience with QuickBooks, preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Math skills including but not limited to; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization
- Customer service skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as company policy, procedure manuals and/or state and federal regulations
- Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and procedures
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred
(At least 1 year of directly related work experience may qualify to substitute 1 year of education to meet the education requirement)
Required Training & Certificates:
- Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
- Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.

The employee must be able to physically travel by air within, and out of, the State of Alaska.
