Role Overview:
You will be responsible for aiding applied scientific research and development to optimize and improve our products. You will be responsible for executing research experiments designed by senior technical staff members. The primary focus is product and fermentation process optimization, genetic and phenotypic characterization of our bacterial strains, working with customer service group on product development, and performing strain capture reports.
Responsibilities
- Receive, catalog, and prepare samples to perform quality testing efficiently
- Perform microbiology testing on a variety of selective and non-selective medias
- Perform basic microbiology laboratory testing, genetic testing and characterization of the bacterial strain bank
- Conduct model fermentations using automated process vessels
- Maintain a clean and well stocked working environment on a weekly basis
- Ensure samples are analyzed aseptically
- Aid in optimization of fermentation processes
- Master all Quality Control duties to assist in testing if necessary
- Practice safety in all aspects; wear proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), etc.
- Fulfill any additional requests from senior technicians or supervisors
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science or a related field or an associate degree with 1 year of laboratory experience, or a High School Degree/GED with 2 years of laboratory experience. (Although Laboratory experience is highly valued, it is not a requirement.)
- Mastered aseptic technique is highly valued but not required
- Strong math and computer skills
- Able to lift/carry up to 40 lbs
- Able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Advanced multitasking abilities in order to address different projects congruently
- Capabilities to act as a strong independent and key team player
- Strong ability to think critically and innovatively
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and record keeping skills
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills
- Good work ethic and enthusiastic when learning new scientific knowledge
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
- Mastered aseptic technique is valued but not required
- Ability to act as a strong independent and key team player
- Strong attention to detail, data entry, accuracy, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated
Expected Scheduling: Weekdays, 8am-4:30pm
