Job Summary
VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a Publishing Operations Associate to join our Publishing Operations team. The ideal candidate will maintain a central database system for the publishing business, provide editorial production support, and act as a liaison between Editorial, Publishing Production, Sales, Marketing, Licensing, and Creative.
The Publishing Operations Associate will report to and assist the Senior Manager, Publishing Operations in facilitating VIZ Media's publishing operations.
What you'll do:
- Gather and deliver all needed metadata and materials required by print and digital publishing distribution partners through the database system and coordinating with Editorial, Publishing Production, and Sales teams
- Navigate the database system to make data updates and changes
- Act as an administrator of the database system, including communicating with and troubleshooting for system providers and internal users
- Provide metadata and product information/materials to Marketing and Event/PR teams and hosts seasonal product launch meetings
- Coordinate consumer ad assignments in publishing products and generate and maintain the pool of ads
- Organize list of updates on reprints and track changes made
- Assist with updating production schedules and calendars
- Assist with other general department needs, including proofreading editorial catalogs
- Communicate with Publishing Production, Sales, Marketing, and Licensing, as needed
In addition to these duties, may perform other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate has:
- Minimum of two 2 years of practical business experience, preferably in an administrative capacity in publishing or relevant industry
- Understanding of book publishing REQUIRED
- Skills with productivity programs, specifically Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Sites) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are a MUST
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position
Additional preferred skills/knowledge:
- Experience/interest in media publishing, comics industry, retail marketing and sales a PLUS
- Knowledge of graphic design program, specifically Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat)
- Knowledge of anime and manga a PLUS
Work Environment & Schedule
Location: The Publishing Operations Associate position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area. VIZ Media operates on a hybrid schedule with 1-2 days of work onsite at our downtown San Francisco office expected weekly.
Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position (40 hours per week) with core hours of 10 am to 4 pm with some flexibility as needed.
Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
