Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Safety Manager to join our manufacturing team in Waterloo, IA. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and continuously improving our safety programs, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, and maintaining adherence to Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) standards. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in manufacturing processes and equipment maintenance, with proven experience in project supervision and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance & Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety procedures and programs to ensure full compliance with MSHA and corporate regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide training and guidance to staff to promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
- Maintenance Oversight & Performance Monitoring
- Collaborate closely with maintenance teams to ensure equipment and processes operate safely and efficiently.
- Monitor, measure, and report on maintenance performance versus company KPIs, leveraging data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee the use of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to track work hours, work orders, and parts usage.
- Equipment & Process Expertise
- Provide expert guidance on industrial equipment, including fans, screw / belt conveyors, bucket elevators, airlocks, pneumatic conveying systems, and 480-volt electrical distribution.
- Ensure precision maintenance techniques are followed to optimize equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Partner with cross-functional teams on reliability methods such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Regulatory & Policy Compliance
- Stay updated on MSHA regulations and corporate policies; guide the organization on any needed process updates.
- Develop and maintain documentation required for compliance audits and regulatory reviews.
- Drive consistency in applying safety protocols and procedures across the facility.
- Leadership & Communication
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams, including maintenance supervisors, operators, and project staff.
- Communicate safety-related updates, performance metrics, and improvement plans to leadership and stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of proactive safety awareness and continuous improvement.
