A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MEDICAL RECORDS COORDINATOR
This position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and security of on-site medical records. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily retrieves signed documents from physicians and scans into EMR. Takes action to ensure that documents are signed and complete.
- Daily transmits documents needing signature to physicians.
- Maintains medical record tracking system. Actively monitors files and transmits reminders.
- Daily prints out new documents requiring physician signature, and ensures delivery of documents to appropriate physician in a timely manner.
- Assembles medical records for agency referrals (for all programs), including, but not limited to start of care date, episode number, etc. Takes action to ensure that records are easily located and coded.
- Actively maintains medical records ensuring that new documents are timely filed in medical records for all records.
- Takes action to ensure that HIPAA regulations are followed for medical records and the records room.
- Works collaboratively with billing department personnel in the billing of a patient episode. Takes action to ensure timely receipt of necessary documents to expedite accounts receivable process.
- Faxes certifications form to attending physician and medical director in accordance with CMS conditions of participation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One years' experience in maintaining medical records or related field required.
- Valid state driver's license required. Ability to successfully pass pre-employment driver record, criminal, adult and child abuse background check/review required. Must show proof of auto insurance and vehicle registration at time of employment.
