Job Opportunity : A-Shift Alley Buyer Location : Onsite, Columbus Junction, IA, US Req ID : R0357883 Category : Manufacturing / Mechanical Salary : USD $55,000 $65,000 / yr Job Summary The Alley Buyer will work in a hog yard environment, responsible for livestock management tasks, including sorting, counting, weighing, tattooing, and penning animals.
This role requires familiarity with procurement programs, weight docks, and buying procedures, and will provide relief coverage during manager absences.
Key Responsibilities Livestock Management : Sort, count, weigh, tattoo, and pen hogs. Procurement Programs : Learn Tyson Pork Procurement Programs, carcass merit details, and kill sheet information.
Job Requirements Education : Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field required. Graduates from Dec 2024 or May 2025 may be considered contingent on degree completion.
Experience : Preferably with livestock experience. Skills : Strong verbal and written communication; basic computer skills.
Travel : Willingness for overnight travel as needed. Work Environment : Requires safety equipment (hard hat, steel-toe boots, hearing protection) and tolerance for variable temperatures based on the season.
Physical Demands Bending & Lifting : Minimal; requires handling light tools (flag and tattoo hammer). Grasping & Standing : Requires full-hand grasp for handling equipment and standing / walking for the shift.
Force : Occasionally requires moderate to heavy force. Additional Requirements Adherence to SOPs and USDA guidelines for animal handling and safety.
