Volkmann is a world leading bulk powder handling systems and machinery manufacturer. As part of our US team, the Accountant will be responsible for all company accounting and financial operations including commercial (internal) order processing, bookkeeping, accounting, and reporting functions for Volkmann, Inc.’s North America operations, reporting to the President.


Summary of Essential Job Functions

The Accountant will manage all company accounting functions including the following


  • Accurately maintain company general ledger and create journal entries for all accounts including fixed assets
  • Reconcile cash, bank accounts, and revenues
  • A/P functions – record incoming invoices, compare against contracts or purchase orders, and process payments
  • A/R functions – prepare and issue invoices for sales orders (machines/systems, spare parts, service), process incoming payments, issue payment receipts, and collect open/past-due customer payments
  • Prepare and process periodic foreign currency and intercompany transactions
  • Accurately calculate manufacturing-related figures including cost of goods sold (COGS), overhead costs, allocation of O/H and shipping costs to each product/order/project, inventory valuations (raw materials, WIP, finished goods), and record all shipments and/or partial shipments as sales in the appropriate time period
  • Complete all month-end and year-end financial closing activities in a timely manner
  • Accounting software – set up new customers and suppliers, record and enter new sales contracts, perform data entry as needed, and manage all accounting transactions in Sage 50
  • Prepare final (as-sold) P&L calculations for larger projects to evaluate order profitability
  • Records management – electronically file all project-related commercial communications, e-mails, invoices, checks, shipping documents, and other backup documentation
  • Calculate sales commissions for outside third-party sales representatives and process related commission payments
  • Review and process travel expense reports, trade show expenses, and employee expense claims
  • Prepare monthly financial reports – income statement (P&L), balance sheet, and other reports
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision making
  • Support third-party CPA review/audit and tax preparation activities


General/Other Functions:

  • Assist with the annual review and comparison of business insurances, coverage levels, and the associated insurance renewal process
  • Assist with the annual review and comparison of employee benefits, health insurances, and the associated benefits renewal process
  • Supervision of direct reports including accounting support staff, administrative personnel, and/or others if required
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the President


Professional Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in Accounting, Full-Charge Bookkeeping, or similar role involving full scope of accounting is required.
  • Professional certifications are considered a plus.
  • Proficiency with accounting software packages and/or ERP systems is preferred; knowledge of Sage 50 Quantum Accounting is considered a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Highly accurate, detail oriented, and an excellent organizer
  • Good communication skills to interact with other departments
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented contributor comfortable in a small company environment.

Salary : $70,000 - $75,000
