The internship program at Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations is intended to provide college / university students and recent graduates the opportunity to use and develop skills they have learned in the classroom by working at our state-of-the-art production facility, and to provide Volkswagen Chattanooga the opportunity to develop talent for potential future entry-level positions.
Summary
The Logistics Inventory Control Team plays a critical role in maintaining the highest possible inventory accuracy while reducing costs at the Chattanooga Plant. The team works across various departments, uncovering new findings and investigating creative solutions for continuous improvement. No prior inventory control experience is required, and the team values motivated, problem-solving individuals ready to collaborate and contribute.
The intern will gain exposure to multiple departments, working on cross-functional investigations to gain a comprehensive understanding of the plant’s operations and a strong foundation in automotive production. The intern will learn the basics of inventory management using SAP to analyze discrepancies and identify financial losses. They will perform process analyses, focusing on optimization, by examining areas such as packaging, material flow, human error, and system gaps.
This position will start on June 2nd 2025 and end on Aug 8th 2025. Our internships are full-time positions (40 hours / week). Candidates will be expected to be available to work during normal business hours (Monday – Friday; exact hours will vary by position and some positions might require work on Saturdays).
To be eligible for the internship program, candidates are required to be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary educational institution or have graduated from one within 6 months prior to the start date of the internship. We are unable to consider OPT / CPT / International candidates
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inventory counts on production parts to identify financial losses and discrepancies.
- Take ownership of a commodity with financial losses, troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, and implement measures to prevent future losses.
- Conduct investigations to observe processes and identify where materials are being lost.
- Design and develop solutions to prevent future material losses.
- Collaborate with teams such as Logistics Planning, In-House Operations, and Industrial Engineering to troubleshoot and improve processes.
- Create and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track process improvements.
