A barback is essentially a bartender’s assistant, ensuring the bar runs smoothly by keeping it stocked and clean. Their duties typically include:
Stocking & Inventory
- Replenishing liquor, beer, wine, and mixers.
- Restocking garnishes, napkins, straws, and glassware.
- Refilling ice bins and making sure there’s enough throughout the shift.
- Checking kegs and replacing them as needed.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Washing and organizing glassware.
- Wiping down bar surfaces and keeping the work area clean.
- Removing empty bottles and trash.
- Cleaning and refilling garnish trays.
Supporting Bartenders
- Prepping ingredients like fruit slices or syrups.
- Running drinks to customers during busy times.
- Helping change beer kegs.
- Occasionally handling basic drink orders if allowed.
Customer Service & Communication
- Assisting customers with small requests (e.g., napkins, water).
- Communicating with bartenders about stock levels or needed supplies.
