Customs Compliance Specialist - Imports/Exports

The Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible for managing the import and export processes to ensure compliance with U.S. and international custom laws, rules, regulations, and requirements. The Compliance Specialist will work closely with customs authorities, brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to ensure that shipments are processed efficiently and within legal requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Daily monitoring, resolution and communication of all imports and exports shipments to and from the US.
• Verify and review customs documentation and entry summaries. Cross checks all data in ACE (Automated Commercial Environment).
• Resolves any discrepancies with customs, brokers and vendors.
• Ensure adherence to all regulations set forth by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other relevant authorities.
• Accurately classify products using Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine corresponding tariffs, duties, and taxes for international shipments.
• Works closely with customs brokers, shippers and internal teams to ensure shipments are processed accurately, with complete documentation and compliance.
• Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel and expert consultants on trade compliance program development and initiatives.
• Provides internal training to staff involved in customs compliance.
• Updating and maintaining import compliance program manual and related documents and developing and implementing international trade compliance standard operating procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of all import/export transactions, including supporting documents, to meet legal and company policy requirements.
• Stay up to date on changing laws and regulations related to global trade and customs procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Trade, Logistics, or related field.
• 5 years in Import/Export operations or Customs Compliance.
• Strong understanding of U.S. customs regulations, international trade laws, and import/export processes.
• Proficiency in customs software and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to problem-solve compliance issues and navigate complexities of international trade.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational and prioritization skills.
