Meals on Wheels Driver (Part Time)

Voluntary Action Center is looking for a part-time driver to deliver meals to our Meals on Wheels clients across LaSalle, Putnam and Bureau Counties. For over 20 years we have been dedicated to promoting dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by providing high quality nutrition services to individuals with disabilities and seniors within our communities.

Under the supervision of the Meals on Wheels Manager, the MOW Driver will be responsible for delivering meals to home-bound individuals along a designated daily route within their assigned counties. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, exceptional customer service, and a compassionate, friendly, and energetic demeanor. MOW Drivers are responsible for checking on the well-being of clients and are required to report any unusual circumstances. This position must consistently uphold and represent the mission and values of the Voluntary Action Center.

EXAMPLES OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Loads prepared meals and equipment into vehicle according to established procedures
• Deliver meals to clients homes according to predetermined route structure
• Collects and returns equipment to a central location(s)
• Notify appropriate staff of any problems or client needs
• Notify appropriate staff in advance if unable to deliver on an assigned day
• Advises supervisor of client delivery records, noting any location and schedule changes observed during delivery, if appropriate
• A mandatory report for elder abuse and/or neglect under the Illinois Adult Protective Services Act.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of and ability to navigate LaSalle, Putnam and Bureau Counties.
• Working knowledge of tablets and GPS navigation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical ability to perform essential job functions including, but not limited to, sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, stooping and bending, pushing / pulling / lifting up to 30 lbs., and climbing (stairs). This position regularly encounters people and often performs duties in outside exposed weather of extreme cold or heat or wet and humid conditions. Some vibration and moderate exposure to mechanical parts. Vision and hearing unimpaired or correctable to minimum requirements of IL drivers license. Must meet the medical requirements of a physical exam process.

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Must be dependable, meet deadlines, and adaptable to working with the clients needs.
• Mandatory reporting experience preferred.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check and physical exam.
• Valid drivers license with a clean driving record is required.
• Strong work ethic and ability to handle sensitive confidential matters with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings or weekends if required.
• Must have a reliable vehicle.
