Voluntary Action Center is looking for a part-time driver to join our LaSalle Illinois team to deliver meals to our Meals on Wheels clients. For over 20 years we have been dedicated to promoting dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by providing high quality nutrition services to individuals with disabilities and seniors within our communities.
Reporting to our Meals on Wheels Manager, the MOW Driver will be assigned a daily route to deliver meals to home-bound individuals and will work 15-19 hours per week. The ideal candidate is well spoken and can provide superior customer service, along with a compassionate, friendly, energetic attitude. As the MOW Driver delivers the meals, the position checks to see if the client is okay and is mandated to report any unusual circumstances. MOW Drivers mostly work in an agency vehicle and occasionally in an office/kitchen environment. This position must represent Voluntary Action Center’s mission and values at all times.
EXAMPLES OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Loads prepared meals and equipment into vehicle according to established procedures
- Delivers meals to client’s homes according to predetermined route structure
- Notify appropriate staff of any problems or client needs
- A mandatory report for elder abuse and/or neglect under the Illinois Adult Protective Services Act.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Must be dependable, meet deadlines, and adaptable to working with the clients’ needs.
- Mandatory reporting experience preferred.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and physical exam.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Strong work ethic and ability to handle sensitive confidential matters with discretion.
- Must have a reliable vehicle.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical ability to perform essential job functions including, but not limited to, sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, stooping and bending, pushing / pulling / lifting up to 30 lbs., and climbing (stairs). This position regularly encounters people and often performs duties in outside exposed weather of extreme cold or heat or wet and humid conditions. Some vibration and moderate exposure to mechanical parts. Vision and hearing unimpaired or correctable to minimum requirements of IL driver’s license. Must meet the medical requirements of a physical exam process.
