Volunteers of America (VOA) is on the hunt for a Security Specialist who can bring a commitment to safety, a sharp eye for detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a no-nonsense approach to keeping people safe, then this is the job for you.
What you'll be doing:
As a go-to security team member you’ll keep our VOA locations secure and make sure residents, shelter guests, and staff are safe all while keeping a cool head under pressure. You’ll be the face of calm in a storm, handling everything from stationary dispatch duties to mobile patrols, always with an air of authority and confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the Space: Keep all residents, staff, and guests secure at assigned VOA locations, staying sharp and always prepared.
- Master of Your Domain: Know the ins and outs of your property, including physical layouts and who to call for back-up when necessary. Local law enforcement? You’ve got that number on speed dial.
- Eyes Everywhere: Patrol inside and out, monitor security cams, and keep an eye out for anything that doesn’t quite sit right — because, trust us, you’ll notice.
- Incident Rockstar: Document everything, report like a pro, and communicate clearly with everyone from team members to emergency responders.
- Crowd Control Extraordinaire: Handle trespassing issues with finesse and ensure that the rules are followed (without breaking a sweat).
- Stay On Alert: Your shifts will require you to stay focused and available, including overnight hours. Your alertness is key — nothing gets past you.
Schedule:
- Full-Time - 4 X 10, Friday through Monday, 5pm to 3am (following a two-week on-the-job training program)
- Be prepared for the occasional holiday shift, but that just means extra pay, right?

Requirements
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of security or related experience, especially with at-risk populations
- Valid Driver’s License, liability insurance and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a Comprehensive Criminal History Background Check
Preferred:
- Experience in social work or crisis intervention
- Training in motivational interviewing and verbal de-escalation
- Familiarity with Fair Housing, Harm Reduction, and Housing First principles
