Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) Is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant role. The Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for overseeing and monitoring all functions related to Housing Accounts Payable, including National Housing Corp, Development, and Housing Corporate ensuring that vendors, contractors, and other creditors receive accurate and timely payments.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Salary: $54,000 - $60,000 (Salary is negotiable based on years of experience)

About the job:
This role is crucial in assisting in month-end closing, supporting financial management and accounting functions. The ideal candidate should be proactive, highly organized, and a team player who can support financial management and accounting functions while ensuring smooth operations in housing accounts payable.
Essentials Functions:
- Perform assigned accounts payable functions as follows:
- Maintain Vendor Master File – ensure all vendors are properly supported by W-9.
- Be the main point of contact for A/P system training and setup.
- Understand and oversee the pre-development and construction accounts payable process.
- Collect documents necessary to support invoices if necessary.
- Process employee expense reports including verification of receipts.
- Process corporate credit card.
- Create Billbacks.
- Ensure invoices meet minimum submission requirement and have proper authorization and coding on all invoices submitted for payment.
- Post approved invoices into accounting system for processing.
- Enter transactions to the accounts payable module as necessary.
- Maintain accounts payable files – ensure vendor documents are properly filed and organized for research.
- Generate multiple weekly check runs, via check or electronic payment. Maintain good vendor relations, ensure vendors are paid and any issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Assist in pre-development budget and cost tracking.
- Research and prepare analysis of vendor accounts as assigned.
Assist with accounting functions related to the pre-development and development of Housing projects within the Real Estate Housing Development Department:
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Process payments to vendors upon receipt of draw funding.
- Assist with banking activities (i.e. wire transfers, etc.).
- Provide support to the Housing Development and Finance teams on internal and external reporting requirements.
Support the Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant in managing the following accounting/ finance functions:
- Solve problems and respond to accounting issues as they arise.
- Assist with analyzing and identifying areas for improvement to increase efficiency and/or improve internal controls.
Support the Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant with annual filing requirements:
- Prepare all 1099 and 1096 for annual filing with IRS as required.
- Provide supporting documentation as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in accounting field.
- Affordable housing, experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Experience using accounting system databases, ideally NetSuite.
- Strong oral and written skills.
- Able to maintain positive attitude and approach towards assignments.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines.
- Detail oriented, deadline driven, resourceful and proactive.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
