Summary/Objective
To advance the mission of Volunteers of America Northern Rockies (VOANR) through the care and coordination of psychiatric services to our community. The nurse practitioner serves as a team member and often as a team leader in assisting in the review and consultation of care of many levels of mental health clients seeking services at VOANR.
Essential Functions
- Provides initial and ongoing psychiatric assessment for agency clients to include:
- case reviews, clinical interviews, and treatment planning to ensure medical
- appropriateness and necessity.
- Provides medication evaluations and prescribes appropriate medication with follow up evaluation as needed.
- Coordinates with other VOANR staff and other community providers in the collaborative treatment process.
- Maintains psychiatric provider of case records to reflect course of treatment and provide required documentation.
- Provides program case consultation and education services for agency staff and other collateral treatment partners.
- Liaison with local hospitals and other facilities as needed.
- Maintains the Agency standard of expected minimum direct service productivity.
- Adheres to all VOANR policies and procedures.
- Comprehends and fully adheres to all aspects of the American Nurses Association 2025 Code of Ethics for Nurses.

- Proficient with EHR (NetSmart and OrderConnect, to be trained during orientation).
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office platform of software to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

- Demonstrate an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient with standard office equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals involved in all aspects of VOANR programming.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
25 % travel may be required for this position.
Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications
- MSN with PMHNP certification with active, unencumbered WY license.
- Graduation from a nationally accredited advanced practice nursing program specializing in psychiatry/mental health
- Must be board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) across the lifespan.
- Must have an unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Wyoming.
- Must have a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number and unrestricted DEA license.
- Must have a state-issued Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) in Wyoming
- Registration with the state of Wyoming Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
- No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. CMS).
- Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards with the assistance of VOANR credentialing staff.
Preferred Education and Experience
- At least 2 years of experience providing direct patient care to persons receiving treatment for severe and persistent mental illness in a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) setting
- Ability to work with both adult and youth/child populations
