Position Overview
Under the direction of the Development Manager, the Development Coordinator provides critical support to development and communications activities that promote VOA Alaska’s strategic fundraising goals. This position is responsible for seeking gifts for annual giving campaigns and sponsorship of events, ensuring timely reporting of private and government grants to donors and funders, and creating written and graphic design content for VOA events and campaign communications. Superior customer service skills and high attention to detail are a must.


VOA Alaska is a youth-serving organization providing prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery supports to youth and families struggling with mental illness and addiction. Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Donations and Grant Management:
  • Responsible for researching and applying for event sponsorships and grants from corporations and foundations up to $10,000.
  • In collaboration with Development Manager, maintains a calendar of upcoming funding application and opportunity deadlines for event sponsorships, annual giving, and all private and government grants.
  • Upon award of grant, communicates award and reporting requirement details to appropriate teams and leadership.
  • Manages tracking system of award timelines ensuring timely submission of reporting.
  • Ensures donation records in grant management system are accurate with all donor/grantor fields completed and donor notes/ background information added as needed.
Gift Processing and Donor Acknowledgement
  • Processes incoming donations (online, mail, and in-person) and ensures accurate coding and recording.
  • Manages donor and sponsor records in the CRM system, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
  • Generate and send donor acknowledgment letters and receipts in a timely manner.
  • Work with the finance team to reconcile donation records and provide accurate reporting.
Sponsorship Development:
  • Lead efforts to secure corporate sponsorships for fundraising campaigns and organizational events.
  • Build relationships with potential sponsors, ensuring that sponsorships align with corporate partners’ values and goals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure sponsors receive appropriate recognition and benefits as outlined in sponsorship agreements.
Donor/Fundraising Communications:
  • Ensures cultivation and stewardship steps/activities occur consistently and according to schedule of assigned individual donors and donor groups (board members, foundation, corporations, etc).
  • Supports onsite recruiting and stewardship activities and communication efforts to sustain and grow VOA Alaska’s Fireweed Society donors group.
  • Working with VOA Communications Team, creates graphic designs and written content for VOA fundraising and donor/grantor stewardship efforts.
  • Seeks in-kind donations for fundraising events (Fall Festival, Be the Light)
  • Pulls data from donor management system for fundraising/donation updates as requested to communicate progress toward goals and seek support.
  • Builds fundraising pages in NFG for special events and annual campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development of promotional materials to support fundraising campaigns, ensuring consistent and compelling messaging that aligns with VOA Alaska’s mission.
  • Assist in publicizing corporate sponsorship opportunities and campaigns through various channels, including email marketing, social media, and direct outreach.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related role.
    • Demonstrated success in securing corporate sponsorships, managing fundraising campaigns, and stewarding donor relationships.
    • Experience with donor management systems (CRM software like Network for Good or similar).
    • Knowledge of donor stewardship and cultivation best practices.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competencies:
    • Strong relationship-building skills with a passion for donor engagement.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
    • Strategic thinker capable of setting and achieving ambitious fundraising goals.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or healthcare setting, particularly in behavioral health services.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial management as it relates to fundraising targets.
  • Familiarity with the Alaska philanthropic community and donor landscape.
  • A commitment to VOA Alaska’s mission and the ability to inspire others to support it.
